Jaguars News · July 20-31 Update

Beginning Monday, July 20, we will follow the guidelines below for all sports and activities taking place at Blue Springs South High School.

  • These new guidelines are in direct response to the new 2.5 Phase guidelines re-opening Jackson County that were implemented July 1. These will be in place until further notice. Coaches must continue to remind students to STAY AT HOME if they have any symptoms of illness or a temperature.
  • All workouts are OPTIONAL.

Not all groups will continue to work out July 20 – 31.  Coaches will be in contact with their respective groups.  Fall sports dead week is Aug 3-9.  Fall sports are scheduled to begin Aug 10.  More information regarding August 10 will be shared soon.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

  • All fields being used can support up to 100 participants in the same area. This is up from the limit of 50 we have been using.
  • We will continue to take temperatures of all coaches and students who arrive for daily workouts. Concise logs of all participating students must be maintained daily and turned into the building AD. Any student with a temperature over 100.3 MUST BE SENT HOME IMMEDIATELY.
  • All students should continue to bring their own water bottles and towels, if needed.
  • Coaches and students do not have to wear masks as long as social distancing is maintained during workouts.
  • NO close contact drills can be done at this time. All skill work must be done without close contact from other athletes, which essentially prohibits any team contact drills in football or soccer, until further notice.
  • Band instruments can be used and played while outside.

INDOOR ACTIVITIES

  • Limits of 25 persons in each space, including gyms, weight rooms, and other common areas, will be maintained.
  • All students and coaches must wear a mask into the building when arriving for workouts.
  • Students can remove masks in the weight room and gym during workouts. Doctors do not recommend masks be used during any aerobic exercise.
  • We will continue to disinfect the weight room areas during workouts as well as disinfecting after each group works out and maintain a one-hour buffer before the next group enters the weight room area.
  • Coaches should wear masks unless social distancing can be maintained with athletes during these workouts.
  • As workouts conclude, all students and coaches should wear masks to exit the building and keep them on until they are safely in their cars to return home.
  • NO close contact drills can be done at this time. All skill work must be done without close contact from other athletes, which essentially prohibits any team contact drills in basketball, volleyball and wrestling, until further notice.
  • No showers or locker rooms should be used with the exception of restrooms. Coaches should monitor the number of athletes in the restrooms to maintain social distancing.
  • Band instruments can be used and played indoors as long as we maintain 25 or fewer people as our indoor capacity.

POOLS – Additional Guidelines

  • We will continue to limit the swimming area to 50 people during each swimming session.
  • All students, lifeguards, workers, parents, and coaches must wear masks as they enter the pool facility.
  • No showers will be used. Locker rooms can be used for changing clothes if needed but we recommend swimmers come in swim suits ready to swim and leave immediately after lessons are over without using the common locker rooms for changing.
  • When in the water, swimmers and instructors are NOT required to wear masks.
  • When on deck, coaches and lifeguards do NOT have to wear a mask if they are maintaining social distancing. If coaches speak with students on the deck and are not maintaining social distance, they should wear a mask.
  • Swimmers and coaches must wear a mask after exiting the water and keep the mask on until they return to their cars to go home.

Most importantly, we continue to stress to all students and their parents that if they have any signs of illness or just don’t feel good, they should stay at home! All workouts are optional. We want to get students back into the rigors of participation, but we don’t want to have an outbreak that would affect our ability to begin practices on time August 10 at the high schools and August 17 at the middle schools.
